Problem solved!! Apart from one small section of one set of points, your solution worked well. Thank you to both. glad to have helped BTW I bought the 1200 grit paper from Toolstation. It's much cheaper than Halfords (£2.60 for 10 sheet vs £2.99 for 4 sheets). I use Toolstation for most of my DIY-type purchases due to the very good prices. Don't have a Toolstation so postage, Halfords next ...

Tips Be careful when doing any touching up as Halfords paints lifts most varnishes Do not spray Cellulose based on top of oil based. I spray all my printed buildings inside and out with Halfords clear lacquer from their car paint range. Never had a smudge or any damp induced distortion so far.
