Penny Lapsang Rimbaud (born Jeremy John Ratter, 8 June 1943) is a writer, poet, philosopher, painter, musician and activist. He was a member of the performance art groups EXIT and Ceres Confusion, and in 1972 was co-founder of the Stonehenge Free Festival, together with Phil Russell aka Wally Hope.
In 1977, alongside Steve Ignorant, Penny Rimbaud co-founded seminal anarchist punk band Crass, who disbanded in 1984. Up until 2000, he devoted himself almost entirely to writing, returning to the public platform in 2001 as a performance poet working alongside a wide variety of jazz musicians.
And they have been ever since Penny Rimbaud moved in. Rimbaud is most famously known as the drummer, lyricist and organiser of Crass – arguably one of the most significant punk bands to ever exist. Since the turn of the millennium, much of his output has orientated around poetry and jazz.

Penny Rimbaud is a writer, poet, philosopher, painter, musician and activist. One of the most prolific punk pioneers is still very active these days. Together with Martin ‘Youth’ Glover they recorded a collaboration album ‘Corpus Mei’, out via One Little Independent Records.
In 2003, he founded what was at first known as 'The Crass Collective', then 'The Crass Agenda', then 'The Last Amendment’ and finally 'L’Académie des Vanités' – a collective of jazz musicians, artists and filmmakers who shared Rimbaud's lifelong interest in progressive, improvisational art.
