Since Windows 11 (or maybe earlier) Windows Notepad internally stores unsaved files so if the application (or Windows) crashes they will be still there later. For example, Notepad++ stores those temp files in: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Notepad++\backup I've searched here (and searching online about this pointed me here too) :
I change settings a lot. Now, I think I've played with Notepad++ too much. Now how can I reset the settings ? btw, I don't want to uninstall, then install again. that's not so "superuser"-ish, right?
Notepad for Windows 10 is the focus of my questions, and little information about it is available. It’s a distinctly different app compared to the other two. It’s less capable than NP++ but much more capable than Notepad. Unlike Notepad, it writes and edits Rich Text Files that save visual configuration information.

Since this is a UWP application, you can try reinstalling Notepad from Microsoft Store. This will replace the Windows.UI.Xaml.dll file associated with Notepad and may resolve the file corruption or other issues. Open Settings > Applications > Applications and Features. Find Notepad in the list, click on it, and then select Advanced Options.
I had text just like OP in my notepad++, and it worked. Where it would literally say something like: Hello World.\r\nHello World. to be: Hello World With my version of Notepad++, doing the top voted answer did not fix it for me, but switching it did work for me.
