A hybrid discussion connecting students who work on the BYU Marriott Silver Fund with BYU–Pathway students in 18 different countries provided inspiration and connection.
Once in the program, students will take a rigorous and diverse set of required and elective classes covering topics such as investments, capital markets, corporate finance, derivatives, fixed-income, equity valuation, and many others.
We view the finance major as a tool to help students accomplish their goals and become better disciples of Jesus Christ. As a result, we evaluate applicants along a variety of dimensions, outlined below, and including, but not limited to, academic, professional, and interpersonal/personal aspects.
Make and effectively communicate sound and ethical financial decisions by calculating and interpreting standard financial-decision metrics such as NPV IRR duration Sharpe Ratio YTM and OAS.
Finance applies quantitative and qualitative analysis to answer these questions and many others, all with the aim of determining whether something is worth it. More broadly, finance is the study of the optimal allocation (procurement, deployment, and distribution) of scarce financial resources.
