The Coeur d’Alene Tribe has been represented in every major U.S. conflict since WWII. Brave men and women of our tribal families have landed on the shores of Normandy, and served in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
The Tribe gains a reputation for being shrewd in their trading practices, gaining them the nickname of Coeur d'Alene's (Heart of the Awl). This name will carry into the present day, with the City of Coeur d'Alene, and Coeur d'Alene Lake inheriting this name.
The purpose of the Tribal Employment Rights Office is to enforce the ordinance requiring fair employment of Native Americans on or near the Coeur d’ Alene Reservation, and to prevent discrimination against Native Americans in any employment practices by employers on or near the Reservation.
Coeur d’Alene Indian villages were established along the Coeur d’Alene, St. Joe, Clark Fork and Spokane Rivers. The homeland included numerous and permanent sites on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene, Lake Pend Orielle and Hayden Lake.

In order to address the critical shortage of housing for the members of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, the CDTHA was organized pursuant to Coeur d’Alene Tribe Ordinance CDA 205 (1963) and designated as the Tribally Designated Housing Entity (TDHE) by Resolution No. 98 (1998) dated March 30, 1998.
In the tribe's own ancient language, it is called Schitsu'umsh, meaning "Those who were found here" or "The discovered people". In this remains a land abundant in beauty and resources, a legacy of leadership, and a lineage that continues from the time immemorial.
The Older American’s Program serves Tribal Elders and their spouses 55 years of age and older. The core service of the program is providing delicious and nutritious meals, buffet style, Monday through Thursday, at the Tribally owned Senior Center in Plummer, Idaho.
