My experience is of having a policeman knock on the door to tell me my car parked around the corner had an expired MOT. I was awaiting parts to repair for MOT. Clearly someone reported it as they wouldn’t just randomly go around checking cars. TBF, it was just words of advice and no fine followed.

So I looked on the DVLA site where you can put your registration details in and it tells you if the car is taxed and mot'd and it said it wasn't taxed.... I checked my bank statement and an email which confirmed I had paid to have it taxed. I then rang the DVLA - the woman looked it up and said it's not showing as taxed because the details hadn ...

The car has presumably been off the road and as such no tax is required. You will pay to tax the vehicle when you collect it, (unless of course it's zero rated). Depending on when you collect the car you may have to pay an additional month for the benefit of a few days but you certainly won't need to pay from October.

Bought car over a month ago but DVLA are dragging their heels about sorting out a V5C for me so I can't tax, SORN or do anything with it as I don't have the relevant bits of paper (don't ask; long story). However it is still showing as taxed for a year to 2020 on DVLA website.
Bought car, DVLA shows it taxed still from previous keeper

Here's my question, when I search the number plate of the Mclaren from which the metal panel caused the damage to my car, it states that the road tax had expired on 1st March 2020. I was told by a friend that insurance on un-taxed cars is void and therefore I wouldn't be able to claim for repair costs against the other drivers insurance.

Got new car so, obviously, had to insure that one so switched insurance policy over. Taxed until end of May obviously, and hoping to sell it asap but, for now, its parked on the road.
Tax, MOT but no insurance - can I park on road?

I stand corrected then. It seems quite cheeky doing it this way, they should at least pro-rata the month. I'm trying to renew now and I've come across this which isn't making sense to me: "The 16-digit reference number on your V11 reminder form is valid from the 5th of the month in which your current vehicle tax expires until the end of the following month" If your tax needs to be renewed from ...

My car was initially taxed in January for 12 months but in June I had to ask my husband to submit a SORN declaration on my behalf because of a family crisis. He submit SORN declaration on line but unfortunately forgot to submit a road tax refund application - there was nowhere on the web reminding applicant that a refund application should be submit as well.

The car was taxed by the dealer at the Post Office but it is not showing up online. As part of the recorded message (of which there are MANY!) there was a message saying that if it had been successfully taxed at the PO or online the car can be driven - which was my worry as I have to park somewhere today which uses ANPR and was worried I'd come back to find it clamped.

But if they had a company car in their old job they will really only notice a significant change in tax code from 6 April 2020 as the current tax years tax code needs to still contain a deduction for the company car with the old employer. The op would need to provide more details to understand what has happened any better.
