My son's car was involved in a minor accident - and his insurance company, without even seeing any photos of the damage have decided 'the vehicle may be a total loss, which means it is uneconomical to repair, therefore we have appointed our salvage company Copart to collect and inspect your car' Its 'book value' is £4,000 so not an expensive car, but not a cheap one.
Anyone had any negative experiences with CoPart trying to undervalue a vehicle. They seem intent on down playing a value, and when i proved them wrong, following their convoluted processes, they claim within 48hrs to review, a week later … silence, they are still dragging their heels and creating difficult stipulations for a re-review.
If the car is at Copart or similar, they will state whether it runs. If they don't then it doesn't It will be hard to get good money with a damaged VIN, so I reckon fixed up it would sell for 50% of the book price- call it £3000
When i spoke to Copart a few months back they advised they were waiting for HD direction. So HD had ample opportunity to have returned the car, I think they have forgotten the car was still there because they lost all the car documents and copart called them about the storage charges and they adviced Copart to sell it off to cover the cost without contacting me.

Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum and wondered if anyone can help.. I am about to bid on a car at the auction and when I have researched the car on the internet I have realised there is no log book and no car tax either!! does anyone know what documents u get when u buy a car from auction and if there is any way of taxing it without if not??
Copart's main income is from selling written off vehicles, I dont know Aviva's commercial terms with them but for my days in Motor our salvage merchant paid us 20% of the total loss value.
