The VA associates this term with migraine headaches. I also posted that VA want veterans to keep a headache journal and, in some cases, where the veteran’s medical records prove that the veteran has frequent migraine headaches that a headache journal may not be needed. I didn’t need one, but my claim was granted by BVA.
Jut wondering, is occipital neuralgia a separate rating from tension headaches? I am serve connected cervical DDD which cause tension headaches and O/N pain. However I'm not sure if VA looks at the nerve pain in Occipital Neuralgia as just a headache or a separate malady caused by my service connected DDD. Any input would be great, thanks!
If it isn't called out in your decision letter, you should be able to get it by requesting your rating sheet from the VA. Call 800-827-1000. Tell them you want a confirmation of your disability ratings make-up. Or, just get copies from the VA of all the notes concerning your disability.

Based on some assumptions, you should have submitted your claim as aggravation of a preexisting condition. Don't get hung up on the word migraines; the VA classifies different types of headaches under that term. You should look up diagnostic code 8100 and see what your symptoms are and what kind of rating you should be trying for.
beings you have a letter from a qualified Dr stating that you can't work because of the headaches then the VA will ''probably'' give you the extra schedular rating and apply the IU. if they don't or you don't like what they rated you Appeal the decision. request the IU Fill out the IU fast letter. Most headaches are vascular in nature according to the Headache Diary. Therefore the rating criteria for migraines is broad. The most common types of heqdaches are. Migraine. will not be diagnosed unless photophobia and nausea are accompanying factors.
This 10 percent rating will not be combined with any other rating for a disability due to cerebral or generalized arteriosclerosis.
