This article explains how to add or change the Office 365 licenses that are assigned to a user profile. It assumes you have already purchased subscriptions and created user profiles for the customer’s end users.
For example, it can remove an Office 365 Student A1 license from an account and swap it for an Office 365 Student A5 license. To do this, the administrator selects the group that assigns the licenses to users, removes the A1 license, adds the A5 license, and saves the change.
To switch the two licenses, we can use the Set-MsolUserLicense cmdlet with the –AddLicenses and –RemoveLicenses options. Last, using the Get-MsolAccountSku cmdlet, we can verify that the ConsumedUnits count of the new licenses match the count of the former licenses (in this example 173).
