Below the Looping Pool, the river passes two stoppers (the first is a good playspot) on river left before reaching the first island. The channel going river left of the island forms a convenient eddy, whilst the main flow going straight ahead drops into a play stopper known as the 'Muncher' (it doesn't munch) which is a great spot for learning stopper skills.
On the west side of Anglesey is Holy Island, the jewel in Anglesey’s paddling crown. Sea kayakers are drawn to Islands for reasons many and varied. This one offers variety in the extreme, from the ‘Inland Sea’ and sheltered flat water, to the playwave at Stanley Embankment; and from unrivalled rockhopping near Rhoscolyn to the awesome tide races of ‘The Stacks’.
An island on a gentle right hand bend, which runs either side. Left is more fun, going through some nice waves at the bottom. A section which is completely blocked river right by strainers and runs straight through bouncy waves river left. Great play wave on the left about half way down, but dire consequences with strainers if you mess it up.
River narrows and produces a surf wave and a couple of holes. Watch for high waterfall on left; in flood it marks a stay-on-it-all-day- wave followed by a rock step which makes a river-wide stopper. Gradient steepens again to another stone bridge. The LH arch generates a surf wave. River then passes under a Restaurant; wave to the diners.
The river bends right and drops over a tiny ledge producing a small stopper across most of the river. Below this is a long Grade 2 wave-train leading to a left bend in the river. The river mostly flows right of an island and overhanging trees should be watched out for.
