Don't waste a tax stamp on an oil filter suppressor. They don't work well for long, they're heavy, and they obstruct your sight picture. Make your own can on a form 1 yourself. Much better long term solution. I have a suppressor that I made that cost me less than 20 bucks in materials and it works great.
Like this argument my ar15 is legal to own just like an oil filter but putting them together is a felony that doesn't even pass common sense test let alone constitutional basis. Like I can make a ar15 but can't make it full auto, and I can make my own aftermarket part but can't make a silencers like I said don't pass the common sense test.
The econo can is legal, as long as both the adapter and the oil filter are registered and properly marked. The manufacturer also must replace the oil filter, per the ATF. However, those are only suppressors when they are assembled and on the gun. The adapters are regularly and legally (in the US at least) used as solvent traps.
I think it speaks volumes to the quality (or lack thereof) of these oil filter silencers that no one has performed an accuracy, point of impact, noise reduction, ergonomic or any other kind of testing other than to post a YouTube video of a person running a few mags through the can to show that it did not blow up or that they are able hit a large target close to the shooter.
filters have threads, just need an adapter. but if you're in cali, it's best not to do this, because once you put the oil filter and adapter together, I believe, it's legally considered a suppressor and it's illegal to own a suppressor in CA. Edit: like, if OP is in CA, this post is a felony charge if someone would to report this. lmao...
Using these for something other than the intended purpose is highly illegal. If you are not a law enforcement professional disguised as a dopey user, and are in fact sincere in your question, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE THIS INTO A SUPPRESSOR. Suppressors, while not dangerous, are highly regulated and taxed by the federal government.
Legally manufacturing oil filter suppressor I have done some research and am pretty certain that in order to make legal, registered oil filter suppressors, the part that needs to be registered is the thread adapter that goes from 3/4-16 UNF to 1/2-28 or whatever your thread pitch is.
It comes as a complete unit with the oil filter attached. Replacing the attached oil filter is legally the same as replacing wipes in a wiped suppressor, that is to say ambiguous at best. If you notice on their web site their opinion is that it can only be replaced by a SOT.

You can't equip the oil filter, the oil filter is one part of the oil can suppressor, you need the other part to make it, which is a "trap adapter", the two combined make the "oil can suppressor" then you can attach it to pistols and rifles.
