I mainly use Rightmove for searching for properties because I prefer their web layout and you can set up alerts. But when researching, Zoopla is good for comparing house prices of sold houses on the same street. Other websites are really good for researching too.
Toilet in the kitchen, sharks in the garden pond? Share the corkers you've spotted on Rightmove.
Is there a way to see price change data on Rightmove without installing any browser add-ons? Or is this data proprietary and they only sell it? It seems knowing when and by how much a listing price has changed would useful to those looking to buy. Also - has anyone used the Property Log add-on? Any problems using it?
On Rightmove, you can draw searches and look at maps of boroughs in the areas for looking at what to buy/rent/browse. Is there anything similar to Rightmove to use?
Rightmove and Zoopla will probably cover 99% of normal houses in the UK, but as others have said - if you want to get an early viewing, make sure to register your interest with local estate agents and let them know what you're looking for (e.g. Type, size, budget, location) and you'll often be able to view the houses before they get advertised ...

Rightmove, PrimeLocation, Zoopla and On the Market. Yes, some are duplicated, and as long as the alerts are set correctly, after the first round of seeing what's available, the emails should be more than enough to keep an eye on the market. Which is what we've just done and moving next week.
Definitely worth trying to build a relationship with local estate agents, it's ultimately what ended up getting us our house. They didn't even put the house on Rightmove and told us 7 weeks in advance of it being marketed and it was only us and one other person viewing it before making offers.
Yep - the matching is a little difficult since Rightmove doesn't publish the exact address but it could be possible with a pseudo match using some algorithm. Regardless, it's not too difficult to cross-compare with sales by eye. Just the historical listings along give a good idea of how well-priced the property is, not to mention the rentals data.
