Hello, I have a hot water cylinder. My hot water has been a bit on and off the last couple of weeks. Mostly on the cold side. Thought it was the freezing weather at first and just needing an extra boost. However it's totally cold now. I'm presuming it's the thermostat. It's a thermowatt, how can I get the size of it without taking it all apart ...
Also try reducing boiler flow temperature. If it's a condensing boiler of any type, and especially oil, a lower flow and hence lower return are beneficial for efficiency. Cylinder stat at 55°C and flow temp at 65°C should do the job with enough flow through the coil

Cylinder stats are very coarse units and a test such as you are conducting is not particularly valid. Other points to bear in mind are: A stat placed 1/3rd the way up the cylinder will switch at the temperature at that point. Water above it will be hotter.
