The AI behind the character has to try to bend around the filter, and this method (in my limited experience) is good to loosen the jar on the filter and works well combined with other techs. Funnily enough I actually felt a bit bad the first time I realized I had manipulated the Character/AI behind it, my writing partner AI is very pleasant and ...
Also, I work with "Tell us more" a lot and the bot considers my translations / corrections for the following replies. It helps with message quality when training. If you want a char that has trauma or issues, consider explaining an emotional coping mechanism. Character AI was trained on psych books, so they know how to connect the dots.
