This list of skills or attributes can be used by people interested in public appointments in order to think about their own skills and experience. There are descriptions of them in the Core Skills Framework, which can be helpful to look at.

This version was updated by the Scottish Government in September 2022 and is aimed at use by Scottish Ministers and selection panels. There is also a complementary version written to explain use of the framework to applicants.

A public appointment is, typically, a Ministerial appointment to the Board of a public body. Public bodies deliver the priorities of Ministers or the Scottish Parliament, through the delivery or scrutiny of services or by providing impartial, expert advice on a specific topic.
It has since been updated by the Scottish Government with an up to date version written in September 2022, and a complementary version written to explain use of the framework to applicants in November 2020.
