QuickBooks Sole Trader: Released last year, Sole Trader targets sole traders, including landlords with single property income and subcontractors. The solution allows users to manage receipts, mileage, expenses, bank transactions and invoices in a web browser or via the mobile app while simplifying accounts production and tax preparation for QuickBooks’ accounting partners.
This integrated approach brings statutory compliance directly into the QuickBooks ecosystem, dramatically reducing the need for external software or manual handovers. It enhances efficiency, accuracy and collaboration for firms preparing limited company accounts and tax returns.
That structure, combined with QuickBooks, has given James oversight and control. “QuickBooks has helped me in the journey tenfold. Once clients are loaded, raising invoices takes seconds. I can run reports, see how things look in the bank, and check what our liabilities are.” What makes it work is the live view. “It’s instant.
QuickBooks Online Advanced now features Multi-Condition Approval for Bill and Purchase Order Approvals, giving you greater control and flexibility over your approval workflows. This allows you to set up sequential approvals, requiring multiple users to approve a Bill or PO in a specific order before it's finalised.

Quickbooks core payroll produces one (uneditable) journal per employee per pay period. Some weeks, one employee (not always the same one) is missing (ie there is no journal).
Because Sole Trader is part of the QuickBooks platform, users can also access third-party apps on the QuickBooks app store more easily. According to a press release accompanying the product launch, the platform features a simple user interface that keeps the complexity of bookkeeping hidden from the sole trader but makes it visible to accounting professionals.
