A car I’m looking at buying seems to have the wrong mileage on its first MOT in December 2021, its down at just over 12,000 when it has less than 9000. Dealer thinks / presumes it’s been registered on MOT in KM rather than miles, seems rather complicated to get amended from what I read online.
Results of MOTs are all online now so I think it's just a matter of whether or not an MOT tester has the time or inclination to look at the previous year's result. They don't have to. Obviously an MOT station is going to just test those parts which are on the official list as necessary to be tested because why bother doing an in depth exam when it's not necessary?
Car passed MOT after failure, but when I checked it on the government website, it still showed info for the failure. Granted, it's only been an hour or so since I picked up the pass certificate from the garage, but I thought the new info should be on the website by now. Afterall, the failures more or less showed up straightaway.
They've got lots of paperwork, new keepers supplement, service history old MOT's, 6 months tax, signed and dated receipt etc. Just weird that it's in daily use and the cops haven't pulled them over..? *****

The MOT in 2021 failed on tyres - showing on the MOT checker - mileage was incorrect at 78166 Next day passed with new tyres - mileage corrected to 28167. 28k was the correct low mileage and the MOTs since then still reflect the low miles.
So I have no idea if anyone can help me with any advice and if it’s actually worth fighting for .. Cars failing on tyres, bulbs, washer fluid. All weekly checks by the owner. Brake pads, suspension, exhaust. Obviously not serviced. What interested me though was that I thought people who neglected their cars would have them serviced and then MOTed to keep a good MOT history. Even the main dealers seem to just send them for an MOT first.
Apparent condition pre-purchase included a reasonable expectation that you were aware of previous oil leaks on it, via the MOT history. Do you have anything in writing from the supplier about them having been fixed? What pre-purchase inspection did you do? Fixing a rear crank seal is an engine-out job...
