On John McDonald's death certificate the Informant (Edward Irby) state he had been in Australia for 30 years. The Death certificate states he was 39 years of age when he died so if these figures are correct he must have come out to Australia when he was 9 years of age. One would assume he came out with his parents?
But next time (maybe in a few weeks) I can photograph Sween McDonald's and Margaret Binning's Probate files which may have death notices and extra clues. But perhaps you will get a better, earlier offer.

I noticed that Ellen remarried after Andrew Mcdonald's death, to Joseph WHITTA in 1864. There is a death in the Vic indexes for an Ellen WHITTA aged 52 in Ararat 1883 reg no. 7166.
