Just to re-emphasise what artful_lounger has said, this is taken from Hallam's Student Attendance and Engagement Policy. Registers are taken and I'm pretty sure a guy in my first year was removed from the course for failure to turn up to anything other than assessment sessions (presentations etc) - he did the assignments, but nothing else.
