The B.A.A. annually reviews Boston Marathon qualifying rules and procedures to ensure that athletes are competing and applying for Boston Marathon entry without substantial advantages over fellow athletes.
The 2027 Boston Marathon qualifying window will begin on Saturday, September 13. Athletes who have currently active finisher streaks of 10 or more Boston Marathons will have an opportunity to register early.

Monday, April 19, 1897: The Boston Marathon was originally called the American Marathon and was the final event of the B.A.A. Games. The first running of the Boston Marathon commenced at the site of Metcalf’s Mill in Ashland and finished at the Irvington Street Oval near Copley Square.
