Trevose Head Lighthouse is a lighthouse on Trevose Head on the north Cornish coast at grid reference SW850766 lying to the WSW of Padstow [3] and was sited here as there was previously no light from Land's End to Lundy [4] and it would be visible from Cape Cornwall to Hartland Point. [5]

A lighthouse for this stretch of coast was first proposed in 1809. At the time there were no significant lights on either the north Cornish or Devon coasts other than at Longships and Lundy Island.

Designed by engineer James Walker the two original lights, 'high' and 'low', were constructed under the supervision of Henry Norris by builders Jacob & Thomas Olver of Falmouth.
The lighthouse is situated on the north west extremity of the head, with gigantic cliffs of grey granite rising sheer from the sea to a height of 150 feet or more.
Trevose Head Lighthouse was built by Trinity House in 1847 as a guide for vessels in the Bristol Channel. Trevose Head Lighthouse was automated in 1995 and the keepers were withdrawn on 20 December. The lighthouse is now monitored and controlled from Trinity House’s Planning Centre in Harwich, Essex.
