The Wye Valley National Landscape was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1971 to protect the special features that make it one of the finest lowland landscapes in Britain.
The river Wye flows through the Wye Valley National Landscape (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) on the border between Wales and England, with the serene Tintern Abbey at its centre. Birthplace of British tourism in the 18th century, even Wordsworth waxed lyrical about it.
The Wye Valley, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, follows the River Wye along the southern part of the border between England and Wales, to Chepstow where it joins the River Severn.
