Financial and Retirement Planning Software | Boldin That's still too expensive for me. I did all of our planning with the "Flexible Retirement Planner". It's not as graphical as those other products, and you need to enter everything yourself, but it has worked well for me. Best of all it's free (though I did send a small donation).
I have a very complex spreadsheet that models everything but in a linear fashion. I use the spreadsheet to do what ifs on taxes, deaths, SS, Roth conversions and a lot of other stuff. I always use Firecalc and Flexible Retirement Planner to do the Monte Carlo work as a second set of numbers.

I tried several retirement planners before we retired, but the "Flexible Retirement Planner" was my favorite (Download | The Flexible Retirement Planner). I would occasionally get a second opinion by running Firecalc, though I thought it gave a bit more optimistic results.
The Flexible Retirement Planner can be run two ways. The first option is to run it online or on the web. I'm not sure I've ever done that. If I did, it was probably very early on. It can also be run from your computer. Under the Download option, you can download FRP for either Windows or Mac/Linux.
I have tried numerous retirement planners including web sites, spreadsheets, mobile apps, and standalone programs. FRP is by far my favorite (I too prefer the downloadable program). It is a free program, but I have donated to the author for this great tool.
