River right of the island consists of a rapid on a left hand bend followed by a narrow shoot with overhanging trees on the left. Left of the island in spate consists of colossal wave trains in a narrow channel between overhanging trees (reverse ferrying to avoid trees whilst freefalling off the backs of waves is an interesting move but great fun!).

The island is located some 2.5 kilometres from the river bank and is at a distance of about 300 kilometres from Guwahati, Assam’s largest and most populous city.
Below the Looping Pool, the river passes two stoppers (the first is a good playspot) on river left before reaching the first island. The channel going river left of the island forms a convenient eddy, whilst the main flow going straight ahead drops into a play stopper known as the 'Muncher' (it doesn't munch) which is a great spot for learning stopper skills.
On the west side of Anglesey is Holy Island, the jewel in Anglesey’s paddling crown. Sea kayakers are drawn to Islands for reasons many and varied. This one offers variety in the extreme, from the ‘Inland Sea’ and sheltered flat water, to the playwave at Stanley Embankment; and from unrivalled rockhopping near Rhoscolyn to the awesome tide races of ‘The Stacks’.
It is very shallow beneath the weir so take care if you shoot it. We often portage around it. There is an island between the river course and a disused lock cut, this is a good place to stop for lunch. The island used to be popular with nudists in the summer, so don't be alarmed if you see lots of white flesh.
Island at Little Corby or Warwick Park. The river splits into several channels here, strainers and fallen trees possible. Best route in low flow was to take the first left-hand channel, but in medium flows this will be big and bouncy and could be issues with hanging trees.
The river sweeps left around Kirby Lonsdale and a large shingle island comes into view. The right channel may be shallow or obstructed (perhaps fronted by a weir, we didn't look too closely). The left channel is straightforward at perhaps grade II; you may need to duck your head or take action to avoid one or two low hanging trees.
