Santander online banking is down this morning. There have been multiple reports on downdetector.co.uk and on the Santander X site. Santander say they are aware and are working on it but also that the app is working fine. I can concur with that having just logged into the app.
Santander will send out a text with a unique six digit number if you don't have mobile banking. So yes, you do need a mobile phone in order to continue using online banking, but no, you don't need to use your phone (other than to receive a text).
Santander is my main account and I usually log in daily. Most times I use the app (old version usually but sometimes also the new). Occasionally, I have to use online banking, e.g. to change an SO. I use Chrome for online banking, and the app is on iPhone. I can’t recall any login or other usability issues.
Something that has changed for me recently is when I log on to my Santander online account (most of the time I do use the app but occasionally convenient to use pc/laptop) is asking me for a OTP, with no option I can see to make a trusted browser.

Santander online banking is down this morning. I have been using the app (old one, and the new Beta version) without issues all morning. Santander is my hub account for many regular savers, and for shuttling money to and from accounts that need minimum monthly deposits.
I’ve been really let down by my bank of more than 10 years, Santander. I have always banked online with them, and I’ve never lived near a branch. But for the past 22 hours, since 1430 on 6 Nov 2020, my account has been blocked “for security reasons”.

Hi It took ages to get registered for online banking with Santander, 2 attempts to get a card as they forgot to order one, trying to set up online transfer from another bank, they sent me a direct debit form, they keep telling me to use my surcode, I keep asking what is a surcode and they dont answer.
