I recently took a 23andMe DNA test and was a little surprised to see some trace Asian ancestry on my results. 1.4% and Native American and East Asian are listed as the main group. Has anyone else had this pop up in their results? Less than 5% Asian ancestry? I was only expecting to see Sub Saharan African and then some menial European ancestry.
All 23andme cares is for grandparents to be born in the country! BUT for some, their great grand parent moved back from the US or Caribbean and settled in Liberia. They now married natives, but when they take a test, in addition to matching Liberia and all, they will also match that of their enslaved ancestors who may have been Igbo, Yoruba ...

Like I said, probably high teens. And that plays out pretty consistently with the eye test when you look at random African American admixture profiles on 23andme and other sites. 12% - 20% is pretty normal, from what I've seen.
23andMe may not be detecting any Native American DNA because you do not have any in your genetic makeup. That doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have any Native American ancestry. It could be that the algorithm is not detecting that specific DNA because you are too far removed from those ancestors.

23andMe's genetic communities are based on DNA matches and AncestryDNA's genetic communities are also based on DNA matches. The thing is, 23andMe doesn't make one for Americans. And AncestryDNA breaks down American ones and makes a bunch of genetic communities for American more than Caribbean and other foreign people. But it's the same method.
23andMe will give you your maternal haplogroup (plus your autosomal DNA- which is more important). I'd take them first before buying AfricanAncestry (hell, having the scientific name of your haplogroup will allow you to do your own research on which tribes and regions in Africa is the haplogroup most found in). Better safe than sorry.
The disconnect probably stems from the difference between nations, cultures, etc. I think that poster was trying to say that Black folks who identify as "MGM", in America, are usually the result of mixed black folks (black + others) that intermarried and kept doing so.
