桃園市，通稱 桃園，簡稱「桃」，是 臺灣 六都之一，位於臺灣 西北部 [4][5][6][7]，西面 福建海峽，東臨 宜蘭縣，北接 新北市，南與 新竹 為界 [8]。 面積約1,220平方公里 [9][10]，設籍人口約230萬人 [3]，位居臺灣各 縣市 第5位 [2]。 全市劃為13 區 （含1個 山地原住民區），其中市政府所在地為 桃園區。 桃園市的市名源自桃園區，其與 中壢區 並列為桃園都市核心，以桃園區為核心的地區稱為北桃園、以中壢區為核心的地區則稱為南桃園 [11]。 由於毗鄰 臺北都會區，多項重大公共建設與商業投資的挹注，加上境內擁有臺灣規模最大的機場 桃園國際機場，促使桃園市發展迅速，吸引大量外縣市人口的移入，形成雙核心發展的 桃園中壢都會區 [12]。
